Evie Grace

Evie Grace is just a little over three months old, still quite small and with a great head of hair. Her Mum and Dad brought her in to get some photos before she starts growing properly and changes day by day.

Family Pregnancy Portrait

Just to prove it’s not all about artistic nudes and bare bumps and whatnot, I asked a friend if she’d like some photos with her children – just before giving birth to the latest addition to the family. Of course the idea was to get the bump in there too, but with his little sisters in shot as well. I’m sure this will not be the last time the little chap is fussed over and prodded by his older siblings.

Daisy’s Model Portfolio

I photographed Daisy’s Mum’s wedding last December, so it was good to see her and stepdad Andrew again last week, for a shoot in the studio – the aim being some basic portfolio shots before signing up with modelling/acting agencies.

You can get all clever with lighting (and I tried, they were here for hours) but sometimes a simply-lit face-front shot can stand out. I felt this was a strong image even on the titchy screen on the back of my camera.

I’m supposed to notice details, but I have to admit I didn’t realise Daisy’s earrings were different colours, and that they were…daisies!

Mother and Baby

Thank you to Lisa, Richard and Libby who came all the way across the Pennines this week especially for their portrait session, staying over in Windermere the night before to make sure Libby got a good night’s sleep. This is a quiet moment but I could tell that Libby will be an active sort once she gets on her feet!

Monthly Pregnancy Portrait

I finished this project a few weeks early thanks to this young man’s early arrival – he’s barely ten days old. We never did get the chance to do the ‘eight month’ shot, as his mum rang to say she’d had a little boy!  I have a feeling this type of pregnancy portrait will be a popular option, at least first time around. Although I’m reliably informed that different babies can produce very different ‘bumps’, so who knows?

Demo Pregnancy Portrait

It’s all set. End of March.

As pregnancy portraits are normally fairly private affairs, I figured there might be some women out there who aren’t sure whether they’d want to do it or not. So to give people the opportunity to see what goes on, without having to do it for themselves first, I’ve organised a demonstration pregnancy portrait session – for the public. Adult ladies only though. Sorry gents.

It will cover various styles of pregnancy portrait, from fully clothed to artistic nude, and I’ve hired a model so no audience participation is required!

Obviously this blog reaches far and wide and many readers won’t be able to get here, but if you’re more local and would like to come, please ring/email etc. and let me know.

Bump 2

This is the little man behind the pregnancy portrait below. He’s just five weeks old and has no idea why his dad is holding him on his outstretched arm, but it does look good doesn’t it? I was lucky to get just enough eye contact for a split second to make the image that bit more powerful.

Baby Jim

Bump

Anything that gives people a reason to want to be photographed is a good thing. Of course that could sound purely commercial, me being a photographer and all, but it’s true nonetheless. Looking back over a lifetime of images is a pleasure and a privilege. But who would have thought we’d have Demi Moore to thank for cementing the place of the Pregnancy Portrait in the future family album? There are few more significant times in our family life than when expecting a baby.

Photography is in large part about shapes, and I don’t just mean nude photography. The addition of a shapely bump to the equation only makes things better, gives more choice and creativity.

I owe a big thank you to the subject of this photograph (she knows who she is) for being a wonderful customer, for enjoying the process so much, and for allowing me to use some of the images – I hope your husband likes them as much as everyone else seems to.

Pregnancy Portrait

Course, of Course

Tweaked my website a little this week, including the addition of some photography courses – by popular demand. Whenever I’ve done courses – photography or otherwise, I’ve always ended up going ‘down south’. Looking into it, I’ve found a distinct lack of decent courses in the north of England generally. It’s not that there are none - just not half as much choice as there is if you want to go down the M6.

There are only a few and more details will be added, but feel free to point people at them if you know someone who might be interested.

Say What?

Say What?

This is Ellie. Eight stones of solid muscle. An American Bulldog, apparently. She has a lovely temperament. No, really, she does, but even if she didn’t, who would I be to argue?

I did a portrait session for Ellie and her devoted owners last week. Good job I like dogs really, but they’re actually easier than kids. Kids can pull faces or refuse to look cute. Dogs can’t. End of.
